In 2010, shortly after Fleetwood RV’s bankruptcy, Coleman Campers sold its license to Dutchmen, who remains the current producer of the Colemen Lantern Series travel trailers.Īlongside the Coleman Campers brand, Dutchmen sells nine brands of camper trailers like Aspen Trail and Yukon. When Fleetwood declared bankruptcy in 2009, one of the assets it divested was the Coleman license and the manufacturing plant that produced the campers. In the ’80s, Coleman sold a license to Fleetwood RV to continue to produce pop-up campers under the Coleman brand. By 1979, Coleman Campers had become the nation’s top-selling brand of camper trailers. Finally, in the 1960s, they decided to expand their products to camper trailers.Ĭoleman manufactured their first campers, a line of pop-up tent trailers, in 1967. Over time, Coleman expanded their products to include a wide variety of camping equipment such as camp stoves, sleeping bags, etc. The Coleman brand was first created in 1901 when William Coffin “W.C.” Coleman began selling gas lamps. At 41 inches wide, the Coleman 17B is one of the wider seating dinettes that you’ll actually find in a small single axle trailer.The Coleman lantern is the first product that put the Coleman on the map. The Coleman 17B’s dinette measures in at about 70 inches long and 41 inches wide. The dinette is technically a single person sleeper but can fit two small children if need be. The rear bunks measure in at 72 inches of length, 29 inches of width and have a 300 pound sleeping capacity per bunk. At only 21 foot and 5 inches of total over length, the Coleman Lantern LT 17B boasts a whopping 5-6 person sleeping capacity with sleeping on the front queen bed, the dinette and of course the rear bunks. The sleeping capacity is what really sells this trailer.

The downside to the fireplace is that you need to be plugged into an RV compatible generator in order to run it. The fireplace comes equipped with temperature control. Dutchmen, in the interest of conserving as much propane as possible, removed the traditional propane furnace and has added a 5,200 BTU electric fireplace underneath the kitchen countertop. One feature that really caught our eye was the fireplace. The refrigerator includes temperature control as well as a small icebox freezer at the top of the fridge. In place of the small 3.3 cubic refrigerator, Dutchmen included an upgraded 12 volt refrigerator that is able to run off of your 12 volt trailer battery.

A single 20 pound propane tank means that the Coleman 17B is equipped with the smaller 2 burner stove top rather than the 3 burners that you’ll find in the Coleman’s larger counter parts.Īt the front of the trailer, just before the battery tray, you’ll find that the Coleman 17B is coming from Dutchmen with a small portable solar prep. Like most single axle trailers on the market, the Coleman Lantern LT 17B comes from the manufacturer equipped with a single 20 pound propane tank at the front of the trailer.
